Finding Design Inspiration
“If we look at the world with a love of life, the world will reveal its beauty to us.” ~Daisaku Ikeda
Inspiration is a tricky thing! Sometimes it sweeps you along like a tidal wave and there's never enough time in the day to transform your thoughts and that torrent of creativity into reality......and then other times it can feel non-existent! A battle to find even a trickle of movement to help you along your way.
I always find it interesting to hear how designers and artists find their inspiration. To hear what sparks a thought, what ignites that creative process of distilling an idea into a finished article, whether it be a piece of jewellery, a new painting or a sculpture.
Finding what inspires you, its definitely an art in itself! For me, sometimes all it takes is sitting down with a piece of paper and pencil, sketching out some ideas for a new piece & Voila! Sometimes it can be a much, much longer process.
Over time I have found a few ways, so when I'm feeling creatively empty I can try and recharge the battery. I love being outside and going for a walk is a great way to clear the head. Being surrounded by trees, the hills or a sandy beach and submerging my senses in the sights, sounds and smells of it all. I find it really helps give some space and return to the studio feeling recharged (well....usually!). Be it a lovely sunny day or a wind swept, baltic one! And lets be honest, living in Scotland its more likely to be the latter!
These are some pics I took a couple of days ago when out for a walk with my partner. The sea air certainly cleared the head and we had fun taking some time out for a bit of photography.
Pinterest is also great for finding inspiration, there is just so much amazing content. Browsing through images and creating different themed boards is a great way to spark an idea for a new design or get that creative pizzaz going!
Here are a few of my Pinterest boards I have created & some of my resin work below inspired from this.
